Nominations Open - 5th Annual Bull City All-Star Games ~ Cullen
Classic for Cancer
Despite restrictions which prevent us from holding the 5th annual “Bull City All-
Star Games ~ Cullen Classic for Cancer” in-person at Duke University this year,
our event staff remains committed to fulfilling our “mission statement” to the
maximum extent possible.
After a highly successful 2020 nomination, selection and recognition process,
which also raised over $8,500 on-line, we look forward to once again selecting
and recognizing the Top 100 men and women seniors from across the state in
2021.
High School coaches may begin nominating their best seniors on-line now. The
nominations deadline is Wednesday, May 12, 2021.
We will announce this year’s selections on our website and social media, and also
hold an on-line fundraiser. We fully expect to return to Koskinen Stadium in
2022, and once again host live games.
Organized by local high school coaches and Duke Lacrosse Alumni, the Bull City
All-Star Games continue to serve as a dynamic way to honor the contributions
Tony Cullen made to the sport of lacrosse: first as a player and a coach at Duke;
then as an NCAA official. Tony impacted the trajectory of lacrosse in North
Carolina for 25 years, before he lost his battle with cancer in 2002.
In our first four years, our event has raised over $27,100 for the NCHSAA Tony
Cullen Memorial Scholarship Fund and the Duke Cancer Institute.
Our event has not only helped recapitalize the initial scholarship fund, but also
allowed the NCHSAA to award BOTH a Men’s and Women’s scholarship starting
in 2020. The addition of the women’s scholarship has always been one of our
long-term goals, and we’re very excited and proud that our event has helped
make that a reality.
