Raleigh - In a first round playoff matchup Panther Creek upset host Millbrook 15-9 behind senior goalie Nick DeFrancesco's 18 saves.
The game started quick with Panther Creek taking a 1-0 lead when Cam Sechler scored, his first of six, a two-man-up goal beating the goalie on a low-to-low shot from 13 yards out. It was only 90 seconds later when Millbrook's Alec Lademann scooped up a loose ball beating DeFrancesco.
The teams traded goals back and forth for the majority of the period in a fast-paced manner during which no more than two minutes passed without a goal. It was not until the end of the quarter when Panther Creek was able to score three in a row, going up 6-4, that either team was able to take more than a one-goal lead.
It was Millbrook that struck first just 26 seconds into the second quarter on Christian Alvarez's first of the night. Panther Creek again answered just a minute later to extend the lead back to two. The teams would go back and forth again with Millbrook winning the quarter 5-4 and heading into halftime down 10-9.
That, however, would be the end of the Wildcats scoring. As fast as the first half was the second was much slower. It wasn't until 3:22 remaining in the quarter before Panther Creek's Jonathan James was finally able to score and put the Catamounts up by two again. Panther Creek would score again with less than a minute to go making the score 12-9.
The fourth quarter also belonged to the Catamounts. Sechler score twice more and Alvarez completed his hat trick. DeFrancesco closed the game with three more saves.
Millbrook Ends its season at 11-7 and Panther Creek will move on to play defending champs Cardinal Gibbons on Friday night.
