Raleigh - Lacrosse does not get more exciting than the final 90 seconds of Friday night's Ravenscroft vs Charlotte Latin matchup in the Brine King of Spring.
Down 5-4 with under two minutes to play Sophomore Jake Schneider took his man behind goal. He dodged from X using a quick change of direction and an acrobatic dive to get in front of goal and bury the goal with just 1:33 left to go in the game.
Latin would win the ensuing face-off and control the ball on the offensive end of the field. After working the ball around the Hawks found a great look inside, but Ravenscroft goalie Scotty Crouthamel made his 12th save of the game with just 36 seconds to go in the game. Crouthamel outletted the ball over the top and the Ravens were able to clear and get the ball behind to Schneider.
Schneider went to work again behind, this time drawing a slide and attempted to dump the ball to McCabe Watson who was ready on the right wing. Unfortunately the pass was errant and Watson wasn't able to get a stick on it. Freshman Riley Pretter, however, picked up the loose ball, drove into the teeth of the collapsing defense and scored with 7 seconds to go to secure the win.
Latin's Cole Clough scored the lone goal of the first when beat his man up the left side. Ravenscroft answered four minutes into the second when Schneider scored his first of the night. The Hawks would answer with an extra-man goal to take a 2-1 halftime lead.
Ravenscroft scored the first two goals of second half on goals from Watson and defender Nolan Irey who took a ground ball from midfield to the rack. Latin's Joe Gitlin beat his man underneath for a goal to end the 3rd tied at three.
The teams traded goals in the fourth. Watson netted his second on a fast break. Latin got goals from Martin Sumichrast and Colin Geraghty before Schneider and Pretter finished the game with their back to back goals.
Ravenscroft is back in action Saturday in the Brine King of Spring when they face Charlotte Christian at noon in Durham County Stadium.
