The Night Before Season

By Damian Hall 02/12/2019

It was the night before season

And all through the town

Not a coach was asleep

Few even laid down

The bucket was filled to the top with fresh balls

With hopes that the players would not lose them all

The practice plan finished with drills all aligned,

At the end some conditioning, which was not very kind

The clipboard and whistle ready to go

Assistants are set, all ducks in a row

The players in town all sat in their rooms

The first day of tryouts continued to loom

The freshmen were nervous, the sophomores prepared

The juniors were anxious and the seniors were scared

For time was limited, only a few days remained

To leave their mark or a legacy unclaimed

As the night stretched on long and dawn drew even nearer

A new season was here, it couldn't be clearer

On players and trainers, assistants and coaches

Now comes the time when the first day approaches

Before the last chime of preseason has struck,

Goodnight to you all, and tomorrow good luck!
