2021 NCISAA Recap

By Damian Hall 05/10/2021

The 2021 NCISAA season is coming down the home stretch this week. And the Triangle Lax private schools are owed a BIG apology. The NCISAA didn't make them play winter lacrosse and their being on a more "normal" season calendar, combined with my general dropping of "the ball," there haven't been a lot of updates to the site since the NCHSAA season concluded.

So what did happen this season with Triangle NCISAA teams?

Girls

Durham Academy

The ladies of Durham Academy went 11-1 on the year, including two wins over rival Ravenscroft, and have been hitting on all cylinders. Lead by Junior Brooke Epstein (59G, 14A), Senior Catherine Lantzy (22 GB, 19 CT), Sophomore Spencer Jennings (37G. 17A, 16CT, 49 DC, 45 GB), and Junior Goaltender Mirella Kades (51%) DA has been well balanced all season long. The Cavs play Charlotte Country Day on Tuesday in the state semi finals.

Ravenscroft

The Ravens have had a successful season going 8-5. They were one of few Triangle teams that were able to get a cross over game with an NCHSAA team (NW Guilford) early in the season. After a tough start to the schedule Ravenscroft has won 4/5 to end the season and earn a place in Tuesday's semi-final match up against Charlotte Latin. Seniors Scottie Dawson, Adrie Kerner, and Emmy Repogle have scored over 100 points combined this season. Senior Sage Crosby and Junior Bea Holdstock have combined for 54 CT.

St. Mary's

The Saints finished the season at 6-9, but could easily have been 9-6 instead after suffering three one-goal losses throughout the season. Lead by Sophomore Lily Larson, Junior CoCo Jones, Senior Eliza Ellerbe, and Senior Kathryn Brody St. Mary's battled hard all year before losing to DA in the state quarter final game.

St. David's

The Knights went through a tough schedule with an iron-woman crew of only 15 players (including 2 8th graders stepping up)! They battled hard and managed to earn two solid league victories. A young team that should return a solid foundation in 2022.

Cary Academy

New leadership had the Chargers looking to rebuild in 2021. A team with only two seniors fought hard throughout the season. This young team has a lot of upside looking ahead to the 2022 season.

Grace Christian

A new face emerged in the area in the form of Grace Christian school. The Eagles played mostly a JV schedule, but always great to add new programs! Will look forward to seeing them, hopefully, at a varsity level in 2022

Boys

Ravenscroft

Ravenscroft has had a rollercoaster 2021 season. The Ravens are currently riding a 5-game win streak, including a 1-goal win over rival Durham Academy. The run has taken Ravenscroft to a state semi-finals appearance this Wednesday against Providence Day.

Durham Academy

The Cavaliers have gone 9-5 so far in the 2021 season. A strong core defensive unit and an unselfish offense have DA clicking at the right now. They will face Christ School Tuesday afternoon in the state semi-finals.

North Raleigh Christian Academy

NRCA completed one of its most successful seasons in program history in 2021 going 6-7 in the regular season and winning its first ever playoff game. The Knights were lead by Senior Dalton Bennett (42G/6A) and Junior Dylan Bryson (25G/25A). Senior Ross Steffens and Freshman Logan Florio also contributed 26 points during the campaign. NRCA was knocked out of the playoffs in the quarter finals by DA.

Cary Academy

The Chargers were able to start their season against a couple of NCHSAA opponents in Northwood and Carborro falling a bit short in each of those contests before pulling off 3 non-conference wins. The rivalry with NRCA continues to build as the teams split the regular season match ups before the Knights knocked out CA in the playoffs. CA was lead by Junior attackman Kavin Wood (64G/35A/64GB) and Sophomore Defender Owen Techets (38 CT, 79GB). Junior Asa Petropoulos had 211 saves (58%)

St. David's

St. David's is one of the 2 NCISAA D2 schools in the Triangle. To date the Knights have accrued a 5-5 record and are poised to play in the state semi finals this week against Cape Fear Academy.

Cary Christian

The Knights of Cary Christian Academy went 3-6 on the 2021 season. They were able to battle hard in several games with four games being decided by two goals or less. A squad of only 15 young men went through the whole season giving their all.
